Working with Mountain Safety Research (an outdoor company in Seattle, WA) our junior class was required to deliver two product concepts for a new product line which was to be called "Power in the Outdoors".
The first of my solutions was a trekking pole that coupled waste kinetic energy with charging AA batteries which are stored inside the shaft of the pole, a valuable commodity in the outdoors.
The second solution is a combination water vessel/purifier, requiring no batteries to operate. The top unit is separated and used as a water turbine to generate power for the Miox purification system (already utilized by MSR). A titanium cup is included which doubles as the container for the expandable water bag in which the purified water can be collected.
